Robots and spiders don't do any harm, they don't even read the page, though they may record the first few lines of text. They also note how many links there are on the site, select key words and report findings back to the search engine. Each time a robot investigates a website it causes the site statistics to record a hit on each page it passes through.
The problem is that we at Coomber can get misleading data as to how many people have been on the site (we look only at the numbers of visitors, nothing more).
