Listen to History

"This is the BBC World Service"...

Radio news broadcasts, even today, are easily remembered for their clarity. Playing historical broadcasts in the classroom along with audio re-enactments can add significantly to a students understanding of important events over the last 100 years.

Play music / audio tapes relating to a subject being studied to help bring the subject matter to life. Even playing sound effects - trains, planes, village / town sounds can add interest to presentations.

Making History

...and now from our staff reporter in Berlin!

Pick any important historical event so that students can write and record their own broadcast material - in the style of the time! How would they report the facts as presented to them?

Pick a campaign or event from the past that has taken several weeks to develop and ask students to put themselves "in the middle of the action". Ask them to make a weekly or daily audio diary of events for presentation.
