Q. Which CDs will work in a 'Real Time' CD Recorder.

A. You can record on CD-R (up to 700Mb) and CD-RW (up to 650Mb) media discs. You can play both CD-R and CD-RW audio recordings.

You can also play ordinary audio CDs.

Note: "Ultra Speed" CD-RW discs are not compatible for recording purposes and should not be used.

90 minute/800mb CD/R discs are also NOT compatible with this equipment and should not be used.

Q. Can I play my recordings on an ordinary CD player.

A. Once you have "fixed" a disc, you should be able to play your recording on most ordinary CD players.

However, not all CD players can read CD-R or especially CD-RW discs. You will need to refer to the operating instructions that came with your CD player if you are unsure.

CD-RW discs are most likely to prove difficult because of their lower reflectivilty levels.

Q. Can I record on any old CD.

A. No, they may all look the same, but there can be a terrific difference in quality.

For example, we tested a batch of cheap CD-Rs. They recorded okay but after a month or so we noticed that the silvered surface began peeling off - rendering them useless!

We recommend using good quality CDs such as TDK or Verbatim etc.- but even then, be prepared for the fact that one CD in a batch may still fail to record.

Q. My recordings are really important, what can I do to guarantee that they do not fail.

A. It is really difficult to guarantee that a recording will be succesful by recording direct to disc. As mentioned above, even batches of high quality CDs may have a faulty disc that somehow slipped through the inspection net and the only way the user will know is when a disc fails to write!

Our 6030 and 6031 models sport twin drives. We would recommend that if a recording really is that important, then try recording to both drives at once using CDs from different manufacturers.

Also, try to break up valuable recordings into tracks - easily done by pressing the "next track" key while recording. That way if a disc does fail, you will still have all of the early part of a performance which could then copied to another disc using our twin drive models.
