- Peeling CD labels are expensive!
-
- We recently had a "magical" CD player returned to our repair department. Apparently, whenever the CD player was turned on it played music, but mysteriously, when the tray was opened there was no CD! Furthmore, though other CD could be inserted they wouldn't play. Sounds like a ghost to me!
- The CD player was returned to us for investigation and repair. Of course, there was a CD inside. The inkjet label had started peeling off and, when it was inserted, the clamp grabbed the CD, spun and played it, but couldn't let go afterwards.
- Every time the tray opened the CD was stuck up inside the mechanism and out of sight!
- We have now seen a number of jammed CDs caused by sticky labels peeling off inside the mechanism.
- THIS IS NOT A WARRANTY REPAIR. We can remove discs that have "Sellotaped" themselves to the clamping arm and we can replace the delicate laser tracking mechanism that often becomes damaged as a result. However, since this is not a fault of the CD player, but caused by customers own discs, we will have to make a charge for collection, repair and return.
- Our advice is that if a CD label is peeling off, DO NOT INSERT IT INTO THE CD PLAYER, since this may lead to damage to the equipment or to the CD.
