PAT Testing and Abuse
Before PAT testing ever takes place, PAT test technicians are expected to visually inspect equipment looking for signs of damage or abuse.
It is suprising how much equipment is damaged by misuse - but still continues to be regularly used.
Here are some of the things you shouldn't do to a Coomber - or any electrical equipment for that matter.

image of all the things you shouldn't do to a Coomber

A. Do not force cassette or CD machanisms, or jam items inside them.
B. Do not stand on Coomber equipment.
C. Do not cover a Coomber with material liable to block off air ventilation.
D. Do not trap, cut or otherwise damage the mains flex.
E. Do not put coffee, tea, vases or anything containing liquid on or near your Coomber.

You should also keep your Coomber away from naked flames.

Lack of Flex Care
Many avoidable electrical accidents are caused by damage to the mains flex - again caused by misuse - as shown in these pictures below.

Never hold or carry equipment by its mains flex.

Never pull a plug out of the mains socket using the mains flex - as this will damage both the flex and the socket.

Do not repair a damaged mains flex. It should be replaced by a qualified and competent electrical engineer. Never use equipment that has been repaired in this way!

IF IN DOUBT ALWAYS SEEK PROFESSIONAL ADVICE.
