Making sound improvements
Coomber portable public address (pa) systems are very powerful for their size and weight and under most circumstances they should provide sufficient power for your needs.

Should the sound output prove insufficient for any reason then there are a few things that can be done to improve the situation.

Positioning

  • Raise the Coomber off the ground. Often the sound output is blocked by having objects or even people in front of the speaker.
  • Ideally, the speaker should be at head height for optimum performance, but even placed on a table, output will be improved.
  • Mount the PA speaker onto a secure tripod, such as our model 1928.

Spread the sound around!
  • Use extension speakers (speakers driven by the amplifier within the Coomber PA).
  • For example, people at the front of a packed hall may find sound levels uncomfortable, while people at the rear may be unable to hear. An extension speaker at the rear of the hall allowes more comfortable levels of sound to be broadcast throughout the room.

Increase sound output!

  • Use booster speakers (mains powered speakers driven by their own internal amplifier)
  • Booster speakers can be "daisy chained" together. You could use three, four or even more booster speakers to increase sound levels as required - all without drawing any power from the pa system!
  • For example, a school using a 2085 PA in assembly, finds the system insufficient for use in a new sports hall. Booster speakers, coupled to the 2085, not only boosts the sound (from 160 watts to 480 watts mpo) but allows the sound to be spread around the hall.
