The Coomber 3600 recorder can be used for assessing and conducting learning interventions across Key Stages 1, 2 & 3.

The 3600 has a built in microphone with a very good, clear pick up enabling recording of voices on an individual or group level. It can also clearly pick up voices during whole class discussions providing exceptional recordings.

Placing the unit away from the student can prevent distraction and enables greater focus on the intervention. Knowing that the recording quality will capture every spoken word or sound it allows the adult and the pupils to focus on the learning activity, the adult can be observant of the learning behaviours and the recordings can be used for evidence and assessment purposes later.

The advantage of audio recording over video recording is that audio recording can be a more accurate representation of the intervention because when recorded discretely the behaviour of the student is not influenced by the presence of a camera; behaviour in front of a camera is not always a true representation of ability due to the distraction.

Audio recording can be used in this way to gather baseline evidence at the onset of an intervention program. Subsequent sessions can be recorded and compared to previous recordings to ensure progress is being made. The collection of recordings provides documented and accurate evidence of the intervention which enables constant review by both the assessor and student building confidence and improvement.

Sound recording can be used for many activities in any area where playing back the recording allows the student to listen to themselves as a third person and make their own comparison between how they sound and how they aspire to sound. It can be invaluable when teaching Phonics but equally so in higher age groups where it helps with Speaking and Listening and even creative writing such as Talk to Write, carrying right through to GCSE level.

Recording a reading test enables the assessor to annotate the test at a later time, enabling them to play back the reading and more closely analyse any errors.

Creative writing can be improved by encouraging the student to capture their ideas as Sound Bites; this allows them to get their ideas down freely so that these can be written up later with all the enthusiasm and imagination of the initial idea.

Coomber recorders are so simple to use and very reliable, the teacher can concentrate on the student or the student can concentrate on the activity without the confusion of operating the equipment.

Worcester 2011 Expo & Seminar

Thank you to all who attended our first exhibition. We managed to attract a number of teachers, bursars, head teacher’s and even a class of students who used the event as part of a business studies exercise.

There are many national events held throughout the year which are not always easy to attend. In line with our company ethics of working with our local suppliers and supporting Worcestershire schools, we decided the best way forward was to hold an event locally to help establish close working relationships.

The seminar covered specific areas of concern relating to Academy conversions with informative and comprehensive guidance from experienced speakers.

19" Secure 16U Rack

We have just released our first 19″ rack product. It’s a secure, moveable 19″ 16U rack with locking front and rear doors. The 7100 Series also sits on top of the rack perfectly as can be seen on the left. The rack is built in our Worcester factory and available now. Full details can be found here.

This is the first in a line of furniture, accessories and audio equipment that Coomber will be designing and manufacturing in the 19″ rack format. Stay tuned for further product announcements over the coming months.

Starting with a non-powered base model through to the top-of-the-range wireless microphone powered version these lecterns are available in black/beech or black/maple finishes.

The initial model range will comprise of:

• 1110 – A basic lectern with no electronics. Ideal for small meetings or venues with an existing sound system – £395. Now available!
• 1111 – A basic lectern with 2 microphone XLR connectors for feeding gooseneck microphones to an existing sound system – £450.
• 1112 – An amplified lectern with a gooseneck microphone feeding an internal amplifier and speakers. A perfect solution for stand-alone operation in small to medium size venues – £600.
• 1113 – As per the 1112 above with the addition of a line input for external audio devices such as iPods, iPads and laptops – £725.
• 1114 – An amplified lectern with a radio lapel microphone to allow the speaker to move away from the lectern and still be amplified - £600.

Everyone at Coomber Electronic Equipment Limited would like to congratulate Ashleigh from Campbeltown Grammar School whose logo had the largest number of votes from the panel of judges because they felt that she had done her research into our product range and it was immediately apparent the amount of effort she had personally put into her design, in addition to this it was a very happy, friendly and delightful image.

Ashleigh was presented with an iPod touch and the school was presented with a fantastic audio package worth £3000, which consisted of a Coomber 7100 hall audio trolley system with 4 speakers, 4 wireless microphones and stands, by Tony Bennett Managing director of Coomber Electronic Equipment Limited.

Our Technical Technician for over 20 years, has just recently retired and he takes with him the knowledge and expertise of the sound equipment that he always installed and set up for our use. This new equipment comes at a time when our Assembly Hall ceiling, and lighting system has been renewed and the new audio system will be used for assemblies, meetings and other such gatherings. Once again Coombers would like to thank everybody who participated. We had over 300 entries, even from as far away as Brazil, we were overwhelmed by the quality of the entries, that it made judging very difficult task. We wish to make a special thank you and give our appreciation to Mr. Peter Lewis for organising the Campbeltown Grammar School entry and to all his Art students who also took part.
